  My husband and I went here for a rare date night, and after reading the reviews, I was excited to discover a restaurant closer to home. Normally, we go to the plateau or head to O'Thym in the village, but we were really hoping that this closer restaurant would save us some effort. There were small things that struck me right away. For one, the server was very young, and quite inexperienced. My husband addressed her in French, but she continued to speak to him in English. The bathrooms were verging on filthy. The candles were those ones with a switch on the bottom of them that you can buy at the dollar store. This would have been fine, but then the food was really just so-so. The soup smelled delicious, but had very little flavour. The scalloped potatoes were served to us cold. There was a really sweet sauce on my flank steak that completely overpowered the taste of the meat, and reminded me of teriyaki sauce (weird for French-style cuisine). The price was reasonable, but then, not really given that the food was pretty disgusting. As I told my partner, I think this is what British people cook when they say they're cooking French. Either that, or someone isn't paying attention to their staff.

  Great dinner recently with a party of 6. Food and service were excellent. Highly recommend this little gem.

  I've been to Alex H a couple of times and both meals were very enjoyable. The first visit was slightly spoiled by a large and extremely noisy party, but our server managed to get us tables outside so we were able to finish our meal in the relative quietness of the patio. The second time we went later and had a very pleasant and quiet meal from 8 - 10 p.m. Alex H is not cheap, but the food seems as good to me as at places where they charge a lot more. Bringing your own wine is great: you can bring something that you know you will enjoy and not pay an excessive markup. Great neighbourhood resto!
